What is a DEA?
Domestic Energy Assessment (DEA)
A DEA is a Domestic Energy Assessor.
He or she will have undergone a government approved training process over a period of several months. A DEA must pass stringent examination processes and security checking. Finally, the DEA must be accredited by a government approved EPC processor.
East Midlands Domestic Energy Alliance are accredited by Elmhurst Energy Systems (Accreditation Number: 002194 - December 2010)
The DEA will be trained to gather data regarding energy saving aspects from domestic properties in England and Wales.
This will primarily include recording the:
- Size of the accommodation
- Heating systems
- Hot water systems
- Glazing
- Insulation
- Lighting
The DEA will then input this data to the EPC provider and an EPC will be produced showing a grade from A-G. Recommendations for potential energy saving measures will be included on this certificate. (The DEA has no control over these initial recommendations).
However, at this stage, the DEA can delete inappropriate recommendations based on his site visit and first hand knowledge. (e.g. it is unlikely that double glazing could be fitted to a Grade II listed building - or converting to gas where there is none available).
The EPC will then be forwarded to the commissioning agent and/or attached to the selling details. Full details of the EPC will be available to the householder on the internet via a unique serial number.
